BEFORE LABOR
A Doula will meet with you and your partner at least once prior to labor to become acquainted, to explore and discuss your priorities and any fears or concerns, to discuss your birth plan and to plan how we might best work together. We also want to know your own ways of coping with pain, fatigue and how you and your partner foresee working together. You will have access to our collection of resources for reading and independent education as requested.

A childbirth education class can be provided on an individual basis for an additional charge.

DURING LABOR
Call us as soon as you think you are in labor; even if you do not yet need us. Your Doula can answer questions and make suggestions over the phone. You and your Doula will decide together if they should come right then or wait for further change. We are able to meet you at your home or at the hospital/birthing center.
As birth Doula's, we accompany you in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. We draw on our professional training, knowledge and experience to provide emotional support, physical comfort and, as needed, communication with staff to make sure that you have the information you need to make informed decisions as questions arise during labor. We can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, positioning and other techniques for comfort.

AFTER BIRTH We usually expect to remain with you for one to two hours after the birth, until you are comfortable and your family is ready for quiet time together. We are available to help with initial breastfeeding if desired. We would also like to plan a home visit within a week or two of your return home to check on you and your baby’s progress and to discuss your birth experience. |
